International Photography Residency Coming to Panevėžys This Summer
This summer, an international photography residency, “Contours of the Place – Photographic Narratives of the City”, will take place in Panevėžys. During the residency, photographers will explore the transformation of the city and create new works reflecting contemporary urban and social processes.
The project focuses on Panevėžys as a changing city, where industrial heritage, the rhythms of everyday life, and urban transformation intersect. These themes will form the basis for artistic interpretations and photographic research.
The residency is organised by the Panevėžys Creativity Center “Prãgiedruliai”, located in Skaistakalnis Park. The organisers aim to create an open creative environment in which artists can not only develop their work but also engage the local community in creative processes.
“When developing the idea for this project, I immediately felt that I wanted to create a site-specific photography event. I wanted the usually closed creative processes to become, at least partly, open to the public. Panevėžys, which is undergoing transformation, has become a particularly interesting space for my own creative work,” says the project coordinator, photographer Monika Pietarytė-Klaesson.
The project invites photographers working with themes of the city, place, social documentary, or conceptual photography. Four selected artists will take part in two residency sessions taking place on 29th June – 3rd July and 3rd – 7th August 2026. The project will culminate in a group exhibition at Prãgiedruliai in October 2026.
During the residency, participants will develop site-specific photographic work, take part in excursions, meet with the local community, present their practice, and use the Prãgiedruliai photo laboratory. Accommodation will be provided, travel and production costs will be covered, and participants will receive an artist’s fee.
Applications are open until 15th April 2026 via the website pragiedrek.lt.
The project is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Panevėžys City Municipality.
