Interactive New Routes in Skaistakalnis Park Will Connect Lithuanian and Latvian Heritage

Stasys Eidrigevičius Arts Center Implements the Project "Reclaimed History" (LL-00061) as a Partner under the 2021–2027 Interreg VI-A Latvia–Lithuania Cross-Border Cooperation Program

The project, implemented under the program's 4th priority, "Economic Tourism and Heritage Potential," aims to revive the lost and forgotten cultural and historical heritage in Semigallia and Northern Lithuania.

Reclaimed History: Progress and Collaboration Between Lithuania and Latvia

The activities of the "Reclaimed History" project, which began nearly a year ago, have gained significant momentum over the past six months, showcasing not only digital innovations but also engaging partnership opportunities.

The first partner meeting took place in March last year in Bauska, Latvia. This marked an important starting point that united the partners in their shared mission to revive forgotten history and heritage by creating modern tourism products.

Moving Towards a Common Goal

On November 30 last year, project participants gathered in the Jelgava region of Latvia. During this meeting, Latvian partners presented digital solutions implemented in Lielvircava and Lielplatone manors. These new technologies allow visitors to explore the history of these sites interactively, exemplifying how heritage and innovation can go hand in hand.

On November 26–27, 2024, intensive digital marketing training sessions were held in Panevėžys and Rokiškis, bringing together tourism sector representatives from the Panevėžys, Rokiškis, and Akmenė districts. Participants delved into tourism product development, explored digital marketing opportunities, and learned how to build personal brands. The training atmosphere was inspiring, and the practical knowledge gained is already being applied.

On September 25–26, 2024, the second project partner meeting was held at the "Pragiedruliai" Creativity Center in Panevėžys. During this event, the results of the first project phase were reviewed, and cultural heritage sites in Panevėžys with implemented digital solutions were visited. Partners also shared ideas on how to further strengthen collaboration between the Lithuanian and Latvian regions.

The project's activities demonstrate that cross-border collaboration opens up opportunities not only to preserve the past but also to adapt it for the future.

A New Route: Between History and Innovation

This project aims to create a unique tourism route that will not only revive the city's oldest park, Skaistakalnis, but also allow visitors to explore the city's history and culture in greater depth. By the end of this summer, the interactive and innovative route, which includes Skaistakalnis Park and the Juozas Čerkesas homestead, will become an even more attractive space for both residents and visitors.

Through smart technologies, visitors will be able to acquaint themselves with historical figures and events that shaped the city's heritage. In collaboration with Latvian border municipalities, the route will integrate into a broader regional network, connecting cultural heritage sites in both countries and promoting tourism and intercultural dialogue.

The total project value amounts to €752,295.17, of which €601,836.13 is funded by the European Regional Development Fund. The Stasys Eidrigevičius Arts Center, as a project partner, has been allocated €84,744.55 from the European Regional Development Fund for project activities.
