Over the past six months, the Panevėžys Creativity Center "Pragiedruliai" has hosted an active residency program combining industry and art. Four musicians from Lithuania, along with one each from Latvia and Ukraine, participated in this unique project. For three evenings, the rooftops of three industrial companies in Panevėžys became open-air stages.
The Fusion of Industry and Art
Musicians Paulius Večeris, Dana Daugaviete, Ira Hoisa, Nikita Kiriuchinas, Tadas Majeris, and Gytis Simanavičius performed on the rooftops of "Panevėžio Stiklas", "HISK", and "Aurida".
Duos of masters from different music genres created unique compositions during the residency, transforming the industrial hum into soundscapes that infused the city with artistic vibrations. Music flowing from the rooftops of the city's industrial giants merged art with industry, inspiring the city to rediscover itself.
"It's exciting that electronic music finds its unique place here in my hometown of Panevėžys. I'm glad to contribute to this project, continuing the city's rich history of electronic music. The recorded genres vary, so I hope everyone will find a sound that resonates with them," shares project coordinator Žygimantas Kriščiūnas.
A Fresh Perspective on the City
The residents’ creations not only reflected Panevėžys' unique industrial character but also raised questions about sustainability, ecology, and new forms of creative expression. Artists and businesses worked together to explore sustainable solutions for today's challenges.
"Collaborating with designer Marija Petraitytė, we aimed to create a sustainable image for the musicians' performances, incorporating futuristic design elements and vintage clothing," explains stylist Inga Jurkevičiūtė.
The spaces and locations chosen for the rooftop performances, captured from a bird's-eye view, were no coincidence. Through collaboration with businesses, art broke into their everyday environments, addressing topics rarely discussed publicly.
"This is not only an opportunity to see this northern Lithuanian city from a new angle but also a chance to find space for new initiatives," says Gita Laurinavičiūtė, head of the Creativity Center "Pragiedruliai."
The hour-long musical performances on the rooftops of Panevėžys' industrial companies are publicly available on the Pragiedruliai YouTube channel.
The project is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and the Panevėžys City Municipality.
