Creative Blazer Deconstruction Workshop: A New Life for an Old Garment

By Danas Kazlauskas

After the inspiring Blazer Deconstruction Workshop, we are excited to share the highlights! Participants had the unique opportunity to bring an old, worn-out blazer and give it a second life – transforming the garment into something exceptional, perhaps even their new favorite wardrobe piece.

During the session, participants were introduced to a brief history of garment deconstruction and its core theoretical principles. The practical part guided attendees through the initial steps of successfully deconstructing a garment. Using mood boards, participants unlocked their creativity, experimented with textures, colors, and design solutions while incorporating recycled fabrics into their blazers.

The workshop was moderated by design studio curator and costume designer Inga Jurkevičiūtė, who helped participants develop their ideas methodically and immerse themselves in a creative flow. A special thanks goes to technical expert and construction master Vilija Andrijauskienė and her team for their technical and philosophical support throughout the session.

This event not only gave garments a new life but also promoted sustainability and creativity, inspiring participants to view their wardrobes from a fresh perspective.

The Art and Industry Residency project is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Panevėžys City Municipality. A special thanks to Panevėžio Stiklas, HISK, and Aurida.
